Sky chooses the LUNA Application Engine from Craftwork for Next-Generation Home Entertainment System

Sky, Europe’s leading entertainment company with more than 21 million customers, is using the LUNA Application Engine from Craftwork to power applications on its next-generation home entertainment system, Sky Q.

Available now, Sky Q is a family of advanced products, connecting wirelessly to create a new ecosystem that makes it easier than ever for customers to access their favorite TV.

Sky Q brings a wider range of entertainment to the big screen, and allows customers to:

  • Watch on up to five screens simultaneously while recording four other channels.
  • Pause on one screen and continue viewing on another.
  • Watch shows from the set-top box, whether live, recorded or on-demand, anywhere around the home.
  • For the first time, take their recordings with them to watch on a tablet.

The LUNA Application Engine was selected because it provides both a highly effective rapid application development environment, and the ability for Sky Q apps, including Sky Sports, Sky News, My Photos and others to provide the same amazing graphical performance as the native Sky Q interface.

“Luna provided the right mix of familiar JavaScript UI development environment combined with excellent run-time performance” said Alex Glass, Director of New Products, Sky.

“We are really pleased to see Luna be a part of Sky Q. Our mission for Luna was to rethink how UI development could be accelerated whilst providing the best run-time performance in the industry” said Søren Mou Jakobsen, CEO, Craftwork.

Craftworks mission is to bring excellent UI experiences to the TV.
